Janie Compton Marrs, 94, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday morning, March 21, 2015 at Meadows Manor East. She had worked as a processer for Unique Printing Products. Janie was born April 13, 1920 in Terre Haute to Harvey Melvin Compton and Sarah Allen Compton. Her husband, Ralph E. Marrs, preceded her in death on February 18, 2009. Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert & Sylvia Marrs of Athens, Ohio and Terry & Connie Marrs of Terre Haute; two sisters-in-law, Audrey Marrs Webster and Rosie McKinney; five grandchildren, Amanda Petkiewicz, Bo Marrs, Jordan Marrs, Brian Marrs and Ashlyn Marrs; five great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Candy Harvey. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Luther Compton and Arthur B. Compton; and two sisters, Mary Estline Compton and Verna Kingery. Janie was a 1938 graduate of Garfield High School and was a member of Barbour Avenue United Methodist Church, Badoura Temple #23 Daughters of the Nile and was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. People would know Janie from playing piano at the Elks Club and from working at Roots Department Store. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved growing flowers and working in her garden. Janie also enjoyed traveling and was a big dog lover, especially of Schnauzers. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staffs of Sycamore Manor, Meadows Manor East, Gentiva Hospice and CVS at 25th Street & Wabash Ave. for their loving and compassionate care. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 24, 2015 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Reverend Marc Kirchoff officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
