Janet Elizabeth Sulzer Horton, 87, passed away Saturday evening, October 17, 2015 at the IU Medical Center in Indianapolis. She was born on January 22, 1928 in Lexington, Kentucky to Elmer Griffith Sulzer and Dorotha Kent Barnes Sulzer. Janet was a retired professor at Indiana State University. She began her education at the University of Kentucky where she was a cheerleader for her beloved Wildcats and a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She completed her undergraduate work at Indiana University-Bloomington where she also earned her PhD in Library Science and achieved honorary membership in Phi Beta Kappa. While at IU, she served as Director of the Undergraduate Library. Janet was an ardent bridge player and earned coveted Life Master recognition for her excellent play. She was an enthusiastic member and supporter of the Terre Haute Bridge Center and a longtime member of the ACBL. Survivors include her son, Jon E. Horton and his wife Rebecca of Phoenix, AZ; her grandson, Jon Thompson, his wife Jolie, and great grandchildren, Cade and Chloe all of St. Petersburg, FL; her sister, Marjorie Collier of Tullahoma, TN; and five much loved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 27, 2015 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with the Reverend Drew Downs officiating. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society, P.O.
