Jane A. Stephens

Jane A. Stephens, 83, of Terre Haute passed away early Friday morning, May 26, 2023.  She was born February 5, 1940 in Terre Haute to John Griffith and Pauline Spear Griffith.  Her husband, Richard E. “Doc” Stephens, preceded her in death in 2022.

Survivors include her sons, Daniel J. Stephens (Linda) and David B. Stephens both of Terre Haute;  her daughter, Katherine J. Thompson (David) of Terre Haute;  four grandchildren, Kera, Stephanie, Joshua and Megan;  and five great-grandchildren.  Also surviving is her brother, John Griffith and nephew, Harrison, of Frazier Park, CA;  brother-in-law, Dr. James Stephens (Elaine) of Staunton, IN;  sister-in-law, Patricia “Patti Sue” Hughes of West Terre Haute;  several nieces and nephews;  and life-long friend, Becky Nixon.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard “Ricky” Lee Stephens and Angel Pine;  a special aunt and uncle, Ruth and Charlie Cline.

Jane was a 1958 graduate of Glenn High School, received her nursing degree from Union Hospital School of Nursing in 1961 and her bachelor’s degree from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in 1982.  During her 45 year career, she worked primarily in Psychiatric facilities and in the field of Addictions.  Jane enjoyed yard sales, auctions and the love of animals.  She especially loved attending all of her kids and grandkids activities.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Friday, June 2, 2023 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.  Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Friday from 10:00 AM-12:00 Noon.  If friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Parke Vermillion No Kill Shelter.  Funeral information and tributes may be found at www.callahanandhughes.com .
