James F. Rice, 95, of Terre Haute passed away Friday morning, December 18, 2015 at his home. He was born March 4, 1920 in West Terre Haute to Bernard Rice and Rosemary Bodine Rice.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ruth H. Leusing Rice; three sons, James Michael Rice and his wife, Luanne, of Sullivan, IN, Jerome Francis Jerry Rice and his wife, Billinda, of Crawfordsville, IN and Mark Joseph Rice and his wife, Cindy, of Terre Haute; and two daughters, Ruth Ann Atkins and her husband, Thomas, of Terre Haute and Rita Ann Schell and her husband, Jim, of Terre Haute. Also surviving is a sister, Marguerite Klain of Brazil, IN; ten grandsons; two granddaughters; four great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gregory John Rice; a grandson, Jeremy Rice; 3 brothers, Herman Rice, Paul Ricketts and Harold Rice; and two sisters, Helen Henderson and Dorothy Wrin.
Jim worked as a General Traffic Manager for Commercial Solvents / International Minerals Chemical Corp. He was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II having served as an Aerial Armorer-gunner with the 5th Air Force in the Pacific Theater. Jim was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and was a life member of Lawton Byrum Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #972, Krietenstein American Legion Post #104 and the 40 8.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in St. Benedict Church, 111 South 9th Street, with Father Bernie LaMontagne officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Military Graveside Services provided by VFW Post #972. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 5:00-7:30 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:30 P.M. in Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict Soup Kitchen, 111 South 9th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.
