JAMES FREDERICK KNOTTS
James Knotts, 94, of Terre Haute died on Wednesday October 17, 2018 in the Health Center at Westminster Village. He was born on November 4, 1923 in Terre Haute to Charles Vernor Knotts and Geneva Maskell Mosbaugh.
Survivors include one son, James W. Knotts of Great Falls, MT, and three daughters, Cheryl Wright and husband Robert of Terre Haute, Linda Abel and husband Greg of Lincoln, CA, and Nancy Dye and husband Ron of Mackinaw City, MI. Nine grandchildren, Pamela Decker and Michael Wright of Terre Haute, Matthew Wright of Heber City, UT, Rebecca Knotts of Dillon, MT, Kevin Knotts of Ft. Collins, CO, Kathryn Peterson of Great Falls, MT, Jennifer Devine of Lincoln, CA, Jacob Abel of Sacramento CA, and Mallary Heaton of Oakland, CA. Also three step-grandchildren, Christopher Wright, John Wright, and Bill Wright all of Terre Haute; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five first cousins of which he was the oldest: Harry Knotts and Katherine Prose of Carlisle, IN, Mary Hume of Sullivan, IN, Doris Ballard of Robinson, IL, and Janet Bond of Vincennes, IN and numerous second cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Dorothy Jean Tindall Knotts, and one grandson, Eric Gerard Knotts.
He served in the United States Army, 20th Armored Division, 65th Armored Infantry Battalion, Headquarters Company from February 27, 1943 until he was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945.
Jim graduated from Carlisle High School and the Indiana Business College after his discharge from the army. He was employed as an accountant at Winslow Scales in Terre Haute until he left to manage the Tindall Appliance store in Terre Haute. After it was destroyed in a fire, he and his family moved to Sullivan where he continued with Tindall's there.
Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street with a private graveside service following at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, IN.
