James W. Joseph Sr.

James W. Joseph, Sr., 90, of Terre Haute passed away Sunday morning, September 15, 2024.  He was born November 2, 1933 in Terre Haute to James J. “Jack” Joseph and Anna Wenc Joseph.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Donna L. Sparks Joseph in 2003, daughter, Diana L. Joseph in 2022 and his special friend, Suzie Hendrix.

Survivors include his sons, Gary Joseph (Helen) of Terre Haute and James W. Joseph, Jr. (Sue) of Fort Wayne, IN;  three grandchildren, Gary Michael Joseph, Brianna Michelle Pullen (Nathan) and Tracy Kuehnert (Keith);  four great-grandchildren, Ashley Whitecar (Michael), Morgan Lenwell (Levi), Brooke Lenwell and Jordon Lenwell (Kaitlyn);  a great-great-grandchild, Leighton James Whitecar;  brother-in-law, Garry Sparks;   sister-in-law, Glenda Bonte;  and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jim was a graduate of St. Joseph School and Gerstmeyer High School.  He was a United States Army Veteran having served as an MP during the Korean War.  Jim worked as an accountant with the United States Post Office for 37 years.  After his retirement from the Postal Service, he was a school bus driver for St. Patrick School and Vigo County Schools.  He was a member of St. Joseph University Parish and was a life-time member of VFW Post #972, American Legion Post #104, Terre Haute Eagles Aerie #291, Marine Corps League, the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club and American Postal Workers Union.  He loved golfing, bowling and playing cards with his friends and was an avid New York Yankees fan.  Jim cherished his time with his family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Monday, September 23, 2024 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Father Bob St. Martin  officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 22nd from 1:00 – 5:00 PM and also prior to services on Monday from 11:00 AM-12:00 Noon in the funeral home.  If friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, DAV National Headquarters: P.O.
