James Robert Evitts, 69, of Terre Haute passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013 in his residence. He was born September 19, 1943 in Greenville, KY to Joe Evitts and Lillian Pentecost Evitts. James worked for Aristocraft Cabinet Company. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Waller Evitts; two sons, Shaune Evitts of Jasper, IN and Terry Evitts of Terre Haute; two daughters, Tara Orman and her husband Darrell of Clay City, IN and Jaime Kempf and her husband James of Terre Haute; one sister, Kathy Patterson and her husband John of Texas; mother-in-law, Donna Bryan; step brother, Tom Treadway and his wife Donna; sisters-in-law, Faith, Beverly Harris, Sharon Berkley and her husband Tom who was his special "Brother" and favorite guitar picking buddy, Tillie McGinnis and her husband Larry; brother-in-law, Fori Waller and his wife Shari; eleven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert Evitts and his wife Peggy and Kenneth Evitts; two sisters, Mary Knust and her husband Kenneth and Betty Cutliff and her husband Ron; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Waller. James was a Navy veteran and served on the U.S.S. Ticonderoga as a radioman in the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 972. James was a lead singer and self-taught rhythm guitar player in many well-known local bands. He was also inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 8, 2013 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, Terre Haute, IN with Brother Mark Grayless officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery with Military Services by V.F.W. Post 972. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2013. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
