James Morton Cannon

James Morton Cannon, 75 of Terre Haute died Tuesday, August 13, 2013 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born January 31, 1938 in Vincennes, Indiana to Charles Raymond Cannon and Dorothy Decker Cannon. He was a graduate of Vincennes Lincoln High School where he was president of his senior class and Master Counselor of the DeMolay. He graduated from Vincennes University and Indiana State University. Jim was a veteran of the United States Army where he was a Sergeant in the Courier Station at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. On November 9th, 1963 he married Patricia Taylor. Jim spent most of his career in retail business management and was Manager of MAB stores. After retiring from MAB, he worked for V.I.P. Decorating and most recently at Callahan & Hughes. Jim was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and took great joy and pride in attending games with his family. He also enjoyed his annual trek to St. Joseph, Michigan with lifelong friends. Jim was a quiet, gentle family man who took great pride in his three children and thirteen grandchildren and their accomplishments. Jim is survived by his wife, Patricia and children. Daughter Mary Elizabeth Payne and husband Kenneth and their children, Kenneth, Jon, Elizabeth and Nicholas. Son James Patrick and wife Emily and children Jacob, Joshua, Andrew and Caroline (all of Terre Haute). Son Thomas Michael and wife Shannon and children Haleigh, Hannah, Caleb, Caden and Chloe of Cory, Indiana. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Linda Cannon (Columbus, OH), Deborah Taylor Wolfley and husband James (Greenwood, IN) and family. And many nieces and nephews. Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, Ray and Dorothy Cannon Schuckman, brother John Cannon and in-laws Herman and Mildred Taylor. In 1967, Jim converted to Catholicism and was an active member in St. Benedict Catholic Church. He was a member of the Strawberry Hill Cannoneers and former Elk. Pallbearers will be his eight grandsons, Kenny, Jon, Jacob, Nick, Josh, Caleb, Caden and Andy. Honorary Pallbearers will be Terry Hogan, Larry Wolfe, Jerry Hellmann, Mike Ciolli and Jim Wolfley. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:05 P.M. Friday, August 16, 2013 in St. Benedict Catholic Church with Father Edmund Goldbach O.F.M., Conv. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th street. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Interior Restoration Fund, 111 South 9th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807 and/or American Cancer Society, 5635 West 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278. The family would like to thank the nurses of 5th floor, ICU and Rehabilitation unit at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Also, thank you to Dr.Oomen, Dr. Shah, Dr. Kaduru, Dr. Gera and Dr. Galea for their excellent care and also Hospice of the Wabash Valley. He fought the battle, kept the faith, the war is over.
