Jack D. Winning, 81, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully Friday morning, March 3, 2017. He was a former General Manager for Mutual of Omaha before retiring in 1993. Survivors include his five children, Deah Coale Haley and her husband, Donald, of Terre Haute, Malinda Winning Hendrix of Nashville, TN, and Jackie Winning Anderson and her husband, Brian, Jack L. Winning and Jim Winning all of Terre Haute; eleven grandchildren, Lauran Coale Kanengiser and her husband, Jed, Jack D. Coale and spouse, Dallas Bault, Evan Coale, Curt Hendrix, Will Carey, Kristen Martinez, Vance Martinez, Haley Winning, Brooklyn Winning, Carly Winning and Jack Nicklaus Winning; three great-grandchildren; and close family friends, Jim & Pat Fash. He was also preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Eileen Martin Winning Hall and Raymond Hall; his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Yvonne Winning; and two sons-in-law, Mike Hendrix and Doug Coale.
Jack was General Manager for Mutual of Omaha with agencies in Terre Haute, Lafayette and Bloomington, Indiana for over 40 years. He received the coveted President's Circle Award from Mutual of Omaha numerous times. The award honors individuals and agencies for outstanding achievements and is the highest award given at Mutual of Omaha. After retiring from Mutual of Omaha, he started and operated Jack Winning and Associates' Insurance agency for more than 20 years. He is also the past owner of 3rd Street Laundry of Terre Haute, Indiana. Jack was a 50 year member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a life endowed member of Terre Haute Lodge #19 F & AM, member of Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Elks Lodge #86, Sullivan Elks Club, Country Club of Terre Haute, Terre Haute Golf Association, Aero Club, Sycamore Country Club, Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce and was affiliated with several other civic and volunteer organizations as well.
Jack was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting and bowling. He was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed following professional boxing. He will be remembered for his warm and welcoming nature, always sharing a story from his memoirs and sharing a laugh with friends and family.
Memorial services will be conducted at 5:30 P.M. Friday, March 10, 2017 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Friday from 3:00 -5:30 PM. Burial services along with those for Laura Belle Winning will be at a future date in Dongola, IL.
