J. Kenneth Borders, 92, of Terre Haute passed away Tuesday evening, April 15, 2014 in his residence. He retired as President and General Manager of Powell-Stephenson Lumber Company and Associated Door & Plywood Company. Ken was born November 22, 1921 in Washington, Indiana to Thomas Borders and Zelpha Queen Borders. His wife, Ioma M. Bornhorst Borders preceded him in death in 1997. Survivors include three sons, Tom Borders and his wife, Dolly, of Winnetka, IL, Jack Borders and his wife, Vicky, of Ashland, KY and Phil Borders and his wife, Tammie, of Avon, IN; three daughters, Helen Pennington and her husband, Bud, of St. Louis, MO, Kathleen Mueller and her husband, Grant, of Ashland, KY, and Joni Looman and her husband, Bob, of Lenexa, KS; a sister, Janet Bachus of Clearwater, FL; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, The Most Reverend Archbishop William D. Borders, Robert Borders and Charles Borders; and two sisters, Laverne Borders, S.P. and Louise Borders. Ken was a graduate of Washington High School and was a Veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, St. Patrick Catholic Church, Serra Club, Aero Club and Sycamore Country Club. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Ioma, and had a special place in his heart for Powell-Stephenson Lumber Co. and the city Terre Haute as well. Ken was a devout Catholic who loved his God and the Priesthood. He enjoyed playing bridge, spending time with his family and friends and rooting for Notre Dame. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 25, 2014 in St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 2405 South 7th Street, with Father Rick Ginther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Friday from 11:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. in the church.
