Irene K. Alkire, 93, of Terre Haute passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 in Bethesda Gardens. She was born October 26, 1925 in Terre Haute to Fred Hampe and Agnes Fitch Hampe.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Clark; granddaughters, Tracey Clark and Lisa Clark; great granddaughter, Amie Clark; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 49 years, Robert Alkire in 1996; her parents; brothers, Charles Hampe and Fritz Hampe; and sisters, Hilda Woodard, Virginia Fulton, Mildred Harding, and Maxine Brooks.
Early on, Irene worked as a cashier at Standard, IGA, and a longtime cashier at Baesler's when it was at 25th & College. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Irene was kind and loving and welcomed all into her home. She was a fantastic cook and loved to entertain. Special thanks to Southern Care Hospice nurses Jamie and Melinda for the great care they gave her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, January 10, 2019 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Pastor Ric May officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to services on Thursday.
