Ida Ann McBroom, the seventh of nine children of William C. and Clara Doehring Endorf, was born near Tobias, Nebraska, on October 25, 1923, at the home farm. Ida attended Zion Lutheran School and raised turkeys as a teenager and moved to Topeka, Kansas, in 1942, to work in an ammunitions plant to support World War II efforts. There in Topeka, Ida met her husband-to-be, Tom McBroom, who was serving in the United States Army. They were married on December 15, 1944 at Bartlesville, Oklahoma. After the birth of their two daughters, they moved to Glenwood, Iowa, in 1950. Ida's husband worked as a mechanic for Herb Klockner Pontiac. In 1954, Ida and Tom's son, Tom Jr., was born. The family were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenwood. In 1998, Ida and Tom moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, to live near their son. A few years after her husband's death, in 2002, Ida combined households with her son and daughter-in-law. Her sixteen years living in Terre Haute and as a member of Christ Lutheran Church have been a wonderful blessing in Ida's life. Tom and Ida had been married for 57 years when Tom died on July 16, 2002. Ida was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings. She attained the age of 91 years old. Ida is survived by her children, Tom McBroom, Jr. and his wife Sandra of Terre Haute, Joyce McKelvey and her husband James of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Judy Dashner and her husband Charles of Glenwood, Iowa, six grandsons, and eight great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 30, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2331 Poplar Street, Terre Haute with Pastor Donna Glazier officiating. Friends are invited to a reception after the Memorial Service. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, Iowa, at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 400 8th Avenue, Terre Haute, Indiana 47804. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. Funeral information may also be found at www.callahanandhughes.com .
