Hubert "Hugh" Dale Gregory, 90, of Seelyville passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017 in Union Hospital. He was born June 15, 1926 in Mishawaka, IN to William Lloyd Gregory and Irene Lillian Snyder Gregory.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Stephens Gregory; step children, Tina Hanna and Eric Grandidier both of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Jacob Hanna, Harmony Hanna, Nora Grandidier, and Mya Grandidier; and brothers, James Gregory of Eugene, OR, Lee (Jo) Gregory of Brazil, IN, Charles (Linda) Gregory of Ellijay, GA, and Dean (Sheryl) Gregory of Puyallup, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Pat (Lucky) Gregory and William (Billy) Gregory.
During WW II, on his 17TH birthday, Dale falsified his Mother's signature and became a member of the United States Marine Corps. While serving in WW II, he was wounded in the Pacific Theater. Later, in Korea, Dale was wounded again. During the Vietnam War he was a USMC Drill Instructor stateside.
After years of active duty in the USMC, Dale then continued full time active duty in the United States Air Force Reserves. Dale earned numinous military awards and citations including two Purple Hearts during his career. He retired as a USAF Senior Master Sergeant after 38 years of service to his country. His discipline and patriotism was learned while serving in the military and it never left him. Dale is a past Exalted Ruler of the Elks, and member of Elks Lodge #2519, West Terre Haute Lodge #687 F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine, American Legion Post #104, Lifetime member of VFW Post #972, Lifetime member of Eagles Aerie #291, and the Outdoors Recreation Club.
Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Saturday, June 17, 2017 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Masonic Memorial Services at 7:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Outdoor Recreation Club.
