Henry Howard Benefiel, Jr., 88, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday morning, February 18, 2016 in Meadows Manor East. He worked at Quaker Maid, Inc. for 27 years and then later retired from Union Hospital after having worked there for 10 years. Henry was born August 25, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Henry Howard Benefiel, Sr. and Catherine Schultz Benefiel.
Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara A. Conder Benefiel; a son, Paul Howard Benefiel and his wife, Lena, of Houston, TX; a daughter, Kathy Benefiel of Memphis, TN; and six grandchildren, Kyle Benefiel and his wife, Amanda, Lindy Stolarzyk and her husband, Derek, Paul Benefiel, Jr., Nika Benefiel, Kara Benefiel, Cori Benefiel and her husband, Joel Miller, Kinzi Cooper and Jordin Cooper. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Henry Miller, Louis Miller and Journe Simpson; a sister, Catherine McBride; and several nieces nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Violet Benefiel, Lena Benefiel, Minnie Benefiel and Mary Frankenfield; and a half-brother, James Patton.
Henry was a United States Army Veteran of World War II having served during the occupation of Japan. He was a member of Hulman Street Wesleyan Church and Wayne Newton American Legion Post #346.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 26, 2016 in Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Dr. Dan Willis officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors provided by VFW Post #972. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Friday from 9:00-11:00 A.M. in the funeral home.
