H. Susan "Susie" Buck

H. Susan “Susie” Buck, 74, of Terre Haute passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024 in Union Hospital.  She was born October 16, 1949 in Terre Haute to Kenneth L. Buck and Mary M. Butwin Buck.

Survivors include her siblings, Kenneth J. Buck (Laura) of Jasper, IN, Mary Ellen Buck, and Dorothy Buck both of Seelyville, IN; nephews, Dan Buck (Brandi) and Joe Buck (Joanna) both of Jasper, IN; great nieces and nephews, Maci, Merin, Maggie, Julio, and Jack; two special aunts, Helen M. Meunier and Betty Butwin; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Susie taught middle school math at Waynetown School for 16 years and at Northridge Middle School for 21 years. She lived in Crawfordsville , IN for 40 years. She coached 8th grade volleyball at both schools for many years. Susie was the scorekeeper for the North Montgomery Baseball Team for several years with coach and good friend Mike Strickler. She was very giving of her time and would tutor students after school both in Crawfordsville and Terre Haute. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, National Slovak Society, and Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority. Susie attended St. Benedict’s and Annunciation grade schools. She was a 1967 graduate of Schulte High School and would have been an athlete in high school if only Title IX had been passed a few years earlier. She received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Indiana State University. Susie was a big sports fan following ISU Basketball, Notre Dame Football, and the St. Louis Cardinals. She was an avid traveler visiting 46 of the 50 states with her sisters and a cousin. Susie was one of 37 grandchildren of John and Anna Butwin and she was close to all her cousins and would do anything for them. She played softball and volleyball while living in Crawfordsville. She will be missed by her cat, Willow. The family wishes to thank the staff at Majestic Care Deming Park for the excellent care Susie received over the last four months.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 6, 2024 in Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Seelyville, IN with Father Todd Riebe officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 5, 2024 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street, Terre Haute, IN with a rosary at 7:30 P.M.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to PS We Love You at Riley Children’s Hospital c/o Fifth Third Bank, 350 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, IN  47807.
