Helen Martin Borders

October 19, 1923 — October 18, 2018

Helen Martin Borders, 95, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 in Providence HealthCare. She was born October 19, 1923 in Sullivan, IN to Charles Wright and Naomi Willis Wright.

Survivors include her three children, Jane Dyer (Steve) of Seattle, WA, Cynthia Martin of Louisville, KY and James Martin (Cindy) of Terre Haute; her sister, Gloria Shimmer of Robinson, IL; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Martin and Robert Borders; a brother, Gordon Wright; and a sister, Nancy Huff.

Helen's passion was her family and her time spent was caring for their needs. Cooking Sunday dinners was her greatest joy. Many lasting memories were shared at mealtime. Helen loved being an important part of her children's and grandchildren's lives. Being the wife of a long-time high school coach, Helen was an avid sports fan; especially in football and basketball. She was a die hard I.U. Basketball fan, so much so that she believed that Bobby Knight could do no wrong.

Helen's last act in life was to gift her body to the Indiana Anatomical Education Program continuing that giving character for which she was so well known.

Private graveside funeral services will be conducted at a later date. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to VNA/Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 400 8th Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47804 or to Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, 1 Sisters of Providence Road, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, IN 47876.
