H. Lucile Aggertt
H. Lucile Aggertt, age 99, of Terre Haute died November 26 at her home. She was born to Maza and Elmer Larson in St. Augustine, Illinois on October 14, 1917. She married Otis J. Aggertt in Abingdon, Illinois in 1938, and he preceded her in death in 1973.
Mrs. Aggertt held bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Indiana State University, where she graduated with academic honors. She also attended Western Illinois University. Mrs. Aggertt taught in a one-room school in Illinois and at Indiana State University and was employed by the Vigo County Welfare Department. Her affiliations included the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Terre Haute, in which she held virtually every office, and the First Universalist Church of Hutsonville, Illinois. She was a member of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom and served on the board of directors of the United Child Care Center. An avid reader, she belonged to book clubs and was active in University Wives and her children's school organizations.
Mrs. Aggertt is survived by her daughters, Kristine Hoffhaus and her husband, Ray, of Vincennes, Indiana; Kathryn Taeubert and her husband, Hans, of Marthasville, Missouri; and Gretchen Weber of Danville, Indiana. Granddaughters Amy Pegg, Lisa Hoffhaus, and Sara Cole also survive, along with five great-grandsons, Michael Pegg, Garrett Pegg, Nicholas Pegg, Henry Cole, and Roland Taha. Her son, Jon Aggertt; her sister, Helen Pence; and her son-in-law, Michael Weber, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted on 3:30 P.M. Saturday December 3, 2016 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street with Reverend Doddie Stone officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Plains Cemetery, Pleasant Plains, Illinois. There is no visitation.
