Guy Edds, 91, passed away peacefully at his home at the Wyndmoor in Terre Haute on December 20, 2014. He was born October 29, 1923 in Sullivan County, IN to Carl Edds and Maude Vaught Edds. He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Dudley Edds who he married in 1948, a brother Ernest, and his parents. A veteran of WWII, he served in the US Army infantry as a mortar platoon leader. He fought at the battle of Monte Cassino in Italy then later landed and fought at Anzio, moving through Rome and later getting hit by a mortar north of Bologne. He was awarded the purple heart and in 2010 was belatedly awarded 2 bronze stars by our US congressman. He carried his war injuries everyday of his life and never complained Guy began his working career in the coal mines around Dugger, Indiana and later joining the postal service where he served as the Postmaster of Dugger for 31 years. He was a member of the Rex Ballard American Legion post #22, and the Dugger Masonic Lodge #721. Additionally, he was involved with the York Rite / Knight Templar and a member of the Dugger Church of Christ. He and his wife Wilma volunteered many years with their church and community. He was also a scoutmaster though he had no sons. He is survived by his daughter Susan (Tom) Dinkel of Terre Haute, daughter Sonie (Dane) Strahle of Dugger, granddaughters Sara (Jeff) Smith, Lyndsey (Justin) Bartlett, grandsons Tyler (Jennifer) Dinkel, Josh (Krissy) Strahle, Jared (Melissa) Strahle. His great-grandchildren adored him; Hudson Smith, Oliver Smith, Vivienne Smith, Finley Bartlett, Tate Bartlett, Beckett Dinkel, Kloey Strahle, Kylis Strahle, and Brynn Strahle. He will be forever remembered by all that came in contact with him as the one you always asked for advice on anything. He had unmistakeable hands and a powerful hug Services will be held at the Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street, Terre Haute, IN on Tuesday December 23rd with visitation from 10am to 12pm and services at 12 noon. Burial will be in the Dugger Cemetary following the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Catholic Charities.
