Gilmette Gilberta Demart Kornblum, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Kindred Southwood Health Care in Terre Haute. Gilberta survived her husband, Guy J. Kornblum, who died in 2005. Guy and Gilberta were married for 68 years and resided for most of their married life in Terre Haute.
Gilberta was born in France on October 14, 1911. Her father, Jean Baptiste Demart, was a coal miner in Alsace Lorraine. As a sympathizer with the French, the Demart family was forced to emigrate to the United States in 1913. Eventually, they settled in Terre Haute. Gilberta attended the local schools. She met Guy Kornblum following graduation and they married in 1936 after Guy completed his undergraduate work and law degree at Indiana University Bloomington. Moving to Terre Haute in 1940, Guy began a long affiliation with the Forrest Sherer Insurance Agency.
Gilberta was active in the Terre Haute community; participating in groups such as Terre Haute Law Wives and Jaycees. She was a diligent supporter of Wiley High School Debate Team where her son, Guy O. Kornblum, was a member. She was a talented seamstress, maintaining an exquisite doll collection which was kept on display in her home. The collection has been donated to the Terre Haute Goodwill Organization by the Kornblum Family.
Gilberta is survived by her son, Guy, a prominent attorney in San Francisco, his wife, Victoria and their children, Guy Laurence, a real estate broker in San Francisco, his wife, Jessica; and Anna Victoria, a Lieutenant in the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office. Gilberta would have been a great-grandmother in November.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
