Gerald E. Bechtel, 71, of Terre Haute passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 in Transcendent Healthcare in Owensville, IN. He was retired from the United State Air Force after 20 years of service having served during the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. Gerald was born August 6, 1946 in Fayetteville, NC to Flora Johnson. His wife, Diana J. McCombs Bechtel, preceded him in death on February 2, 2005.

Survivors include his children, Carrie Bechtel of Evansville, IN and Michael (Breanna) Bechtel of Haubstadt, IN; a grandson, Bryson Joe Bechtel; cousin, Sam Pierce; and an aunt, Betty Sweeney. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Patty Keep of Brazil, IN; brother-in-law, Jim Jones of Terre Haute; and nephew and nieces, Matt Hall (Sara), Julie Jo Hall, Roxanne Jones and Rachelle Jones. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Gerald was a life member of Lawton Byrum Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #972. He enjoyed playing golf and loved to go to Denny's where he had his morning coffee and paper.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 16, 2018 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Pastor Jeffrey Keenan officiating. Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by VFW Post #972. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Friday from 10:00-11:00 AM.
