George H. Rector, Jr., 93, of South Elgin, Illinois and formerly of Venice, Florida and Terre Haute died Saturday morning, March 8, 2014 in Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, Illinois. He was a carpenter having retired from the Vigo County School Corporation. George was born June 20, 1920 in Terre Haute to George H. Rector, Sr. and Pearl Dildine Rector. Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Linda House Rector of South Elgin, IL; daughters, Marilyn McMullen and her husband John of Rosedale, IN and Georgia Lynn Glanzman and her husband Chris of South Elgin, IL; grandchildren Jayne Ann Virostko of Terre Haute, Mandy Hopton and her husband Brian of Terre Haute, Holly Hazzard and her husband Dan of Rosedale, JR McMullen and his wife Angie of Richmond, IN, Todd McMullen and his wife Monica of Greenwood, IN, Michael McMullen of Knoxville, TN, and Jessica Glanzman, Connor Glanzman and Jacob Glanzman all of South Elgin, IL; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Cass of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herman and William Rector; and sisters, Thelma Euriga, Mable Waid, Helen Rector, Mary Olbrich, Martha Boling, and Frances Buell. George was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 14, 2014 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Dr. Mark Fleschner officiating. Military Honors will be provided by VFW Post #972. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Friday from 9:00-10:00 A.M. in the funeral home. Private burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
