Garry Wayne "Woody" Woods

April 13, 1949 — December 20, 2021

Garry Wayne “Woody” Woods, 72, of Terre Haute, Indiana passed away peacefully and without pain with his loving family by his side on December 20, 2021.  Garry was born in Terre Haute Union Hospital on the day of April 13, 1949, to William Malcolm “Buck” Woods and Mary Katherine Woods.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents and two half-sisters, Beverly and Pauline.  He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Ann Woods of Terre Haute, Indiana;  his two half-brothers, Carl (Sandy) Woods of Washington State and William (Shirley) Woods of Missouri;  his very special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Ward Hubbard of Terre Haute;  and his two sons, Brad (Angie) Woods of Terre Haute and Brian (Jessy) Woods of Shelburn, IN.  Also surviving are two special nieces, Courtney and Anne Hubbard of Terre Haute;  many grandchildren that he cherished so much, Kelsey, Kaylee, Hunter, Madilyn, and Olivia of Terre Haute and Ethan of Shelburn;  and last but not least one great granddaughter, Lilly of Terre Haute.

Garry graduated from Gerstmeyer Tech High School in 1967.  After graduation, Garry enlisted in the naval reserves and served 2 active years where he was in the Vietnam War on the USS Paul Revere. After finishing the Navy, he married his high school sweetheart Patty Marts on April 3, 1971. Garry started his career as a millwright/mechanic at Alcan Aluminum in Terre Haute that lasted for 21 years and continued until getting laid off. He spent the rest of his career with Specialty Blanks Inc. where he was a man of all trades including a Human Resources Manager. After struggling with his health for many years Garry decided to retire at the age of 55.

Garry was man of many talents. He enjoyed pottery, rod iron work, and was very skilled at carpentry. If there was something to be fixed it was always “call Garry”- there were not many things the man could not do.  He was such a loving husband that if Pat wanted something built, it was done.  Garry would have done anything for her. He also enjoyed vintage cars having a 1937 Ford and his most cherished car, a 1949 Dodge Woody- it was something he always dreamed of having. He loved working on cars and restoring cars with his son and grandsons when he had spare time. If there was a school project to be done, the grandchildren would always run to Grandpa who always went above and beyond with them.

Garry will be greatly missed by everyone.  He had no enemies, and everyone was a friend. There was no better Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother-In-Law, Great Grandfather or Uncle.  We love you Garry.
