Florence "Flo" Elizabeth Rodgers, 87, of Terre Haute died at 9:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2016, in Princeton, IN. She was born May 26, 1929 in Clinton, IN to Beryle and Dorothy Clearwater Johnson of Newport and Rockville, IN. She married Pearley "Gene" Rodgers, originally of Rockville on March 14, 1950. Florence and Gene owned and operated Yarn Tuff Carpeting in Terre Haute from 1964 to 1985. Flo went on to work at Meis Department Store and the Western Indiana Regional Employment Office until her retirement in 2007.
She is survived by her daughter, Debby Phares and her husband, Mike of Princeton, IN; two sons, Randy Rodgers and his wife Betsy of Terre Haute and Todd Rodgers and his wife Yvonne of Gainesville, VA; sister-in-law, Edna Johnson of San Clemente, CA; and grandchildren, Beth Miller, Chris Phares, Doug Phares, David Phares, Andy Rodgers, Nathan Rodgers, Lauren Rodgers, and Kyler Rodgers. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Cydney, Connor, Camden, Harper, Reid, Breana, Taryn, Avery, Grace and Hunter; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene, brother U.A. Johnson, sister Martha Cooper, brother-in-law John Cooper, brother-in-law, David Rodgers, sister-in-law Phyllis Rodgers, brother-in-law Bill Moore, and sister-in-law Martha Moore.
Flo was a 1947 graduate of Rockville High School and was a member of the Eastern Star and Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, Terre Haute. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and friends dearly and enjoyed preserving her family history through photos and heirlooms passed down from previous generations. Flo had a beautiful voice and sang in high school and at her church in Rockville. She also enjoyed reading, cooking, needlepoint, and the company of her beloved dog Molly. Her love and kindness are cherished and will be missed.
Services will be on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Pastor Greg Davis officiating. Graveside services will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is Wednesday, October 12th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and also one hour prior to services on Thursday in the funeral home.
