Fannie Brown Nolan Roberts, of Bowie, Maryland and formerly of Terre Haute passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015. She was born June 10, 1922, in Terre Haute, IN to Ellen Moore-Nolan and Albert Nolan. She was the second born of eleven children. Early on in life, she attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and Sarah Scott Jr. High. During this period, Fannie was a member of the St. Paul Baptist Church. In 1942, she and Bruce Roberts married, and from this union they had five children: Cyril Roberts, Gary Porter Roberts, Bruce Roberts, Jr., Vaughn Gill Roberts, and Starrdanya Roberts. She was a very hard-working, caring, and devoted mother and wife, who was extremely family-oriented. Her occupation was domestic work, which she did for many years. Her hobbies included traveling, driving, shopping, cooking, casinos, visiting with family and friends, and dining out. In 2008, after being diagnosed with dementia, she went to live with her daughter in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for several years, prior to going into an assistant living facility in Bowie, Maryland. While there, her health gradually declined, although she continued to struggle, and beat the odds many times against the prognoses of her doctors. Fannie was preceded in death by her mother, father, son Gary, and husband, Bruce Roberts, Sr., as well as siblings: Wesley Nolan, Thomas Nolan, Herman Nolan, Viola Brewer, Helen Hatfield, Willa Mae Mays, Augusta Jones, Mary Helen Nolan, and Alberta Calloway. Her surviving siblings are Paul Nolan and Jessie Mazique of Terre Haute. Also surviving is her daughter, Cyril Rosborough of Washington, D.C.; her three sons, Bruce Roberts, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Gill Roberts and his wife, Debora Roberts of Terre Haute, and Starrdanya Roberts of Fargo, North Dakota; her many grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Our beloved mother will be greatly missed and we solicit your prayers during our time of sorrow. We would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Debora Roberts for all of her invaluable input; Minister Chris Chubb of Indianapolis; Sister Denise Mouzone of Dillon, South Carolina, attendees, and all whom have been supportive.
