Evelyn Reynolds Vaught, 96, of Terre Haute passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017. She was a resident at Westminster Village for 12 years. Born February 8, 1920 in West Lebanon, IN to Earl T. Reynolds and Edna F. Albert Reynolds. Evelyn was a retired public school music teacher who taught in Vigo and Benton Counties as well as teaching piano in LaPorte Elementary schools.
Survivors include her sons, Dr. Jeffry L. Vaught and his wife Christine of Glenmoore, PA and Larry C. Vaught and his wife Lyn of Roseville, CA; grandchildren, Amanda, Morgan, and Lori; grandsons-in-law; great grandchildren, Emma and Addie Lines; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Albert "Abe" and Robert "Bob" Reynolds.
Evelyn was a member of First Baptist Church where she was an accompanist and member of the Sanctuary Choir and the Senior Singers, a charter member of the Beta Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma an International honorary teacher organization; Sigma Alpha Iota - Music Fraternity for Women; Young at Heart Swim Club; Low Vision Group; and the Kum Dubble Class. She was a graduate of Oxford, IN High School; I.S.U., including sixth year Graduate Studies; attended the Chicago Musical College and was named Teacher of the Year in the Vigo County School Corporation. She was the representative of Indiana State Teachers College in a joint concert with St. Mary of the Woods and Rose Hulman where she performed the Piano Concerto in E-flat by Franz Liszt.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in First Baptist Church, 4701 E. Poplar, with Reverend Bernie Jackson and Reverend Steve Newman officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. Private burial will be in West Lebanon Cemetery in West Lebanon, IN. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Macular Degeneration Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, P.O. Box 1952, Clarksburg, MD 20871-1952; First Baptist Church Music Department (Piano Maintenance) or the Will Center of Terre Haute.
