Emma Carballo, age 84, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her side on Sunday, July 17, 2016. She was born on December 11, 1931 in Fuencaliente, Spain.
Emma is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jose A. Carballo; one son, Jose Miguel Carballo Torres (Mili); two daughters, Maria Elliott (Bill) and Emmy Carballo Torres; and six grandchildren: Jose Miguel Carballo Boschetti (Alina), Carlos Eduardo Carballo Boschetti (Christine), Ross J. Elliott (Marie), Rosalina Elliott (Ben), Evan Elliott and Cristina Elliott. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren: David Oliver, Nicole Esther, Antonio Jose and Lillian Marie; one sister, Ana Torres; seven sisters and brothers-in law; many loving nieces and nephews, family members and friends; a very special adopted daughter, Beth Collins; and a kind caregiver and companion Maria Davila.
Emma is preceded in death by her parents, Julian and Lola Torres; one brother and three sisters.
She enjoyed sewing, crochet, knitting, cooking and bowling.
She was a member of St. Patrick Church where she was involved in the Altar Rosary Society, the Adoration Chapel and the Soup Kitchen.
Emma worked for a couple of years as a crossing guard with Vigo County Schools in Terre Haute and was a volunteer at St. Patrick School.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Dan Bedel officiating. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 2:00-3:00 P.M. in the church. Honoring her wishes a cremation will follow at a later day with burial at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Terre Haute.
