Elsie Ruth Gemmecke

Elsie Ruth Gemmecke, 94, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 in Camby, IN. Elsie was born October 4, 1924 in Terre Haute to the late Walter Scott and Dolly (Pearman) Scott. She married Conrad J. Gemmecke on April 17, 1946 and they were married 71 years until his death on March 7, 2018.
Elsie was a homemaker raising three children. During the Christmas Season she worked as a clerk for Woolworth Department Store. During World War II, she worked in an ammunition manufacturing plant.
Elsie Ruth was a 1942 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School, a 50 year member of Chapter 43 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and an active member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ since its beginning in 1958.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Barrett of Indianapolis, IN, Helen Gilbreck of Los Angeles, CA, and Jean Rickard of Owensburo, KY, and two brothers, Raymond (Bud) Scott of Indianapolis, IN and Jack Scott of Los Angeles, CA.
Survivors include one daughter, Connie Jean (Steven) Johnson, and two sons, Terry Allen Gemmecke (Judy Scott), and Jerry Conrad Gemmecke (Joe McIntosh). Grandchildren include Matthew Steven Johnson of South Carolina, Jamie Lynn Moody of Georgia, Carly Nadine Wilson of South Carolina, and Conrad Scott Gemmecke of Florida. There are also three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 30, 2019 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Reverend Teresa Higus officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2019 with an Eastern Star memorial service at 7:00 p.m.
