ELIZABETH F. (BETTY) EFFNER Elizabeth F. (Betty) Effner, 92, of Terre Haute died at 12:41 a.m., Friday, July 12, 2013, in her home. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great and great great grandmother. She was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Terre Haute to Daniel C. Burke and Mary Loretto Murphy Burke. Survivors include sons Michael J. Effner and wife Nancy, and Robert O. Effner and wife Marjorie, of Terre Haute; daughter Catherine A. Wien and husband Stephen of Lafayette; grandchildren, Maranda Effner Tucker (Ben), John M. Effner (Lori), Mary Elizabeth Effner, Matthew R. Effner (Cathy), Michael O. Effner (Erin), Jennifer Wien Kimerer (Joe) and Stephen R. Wien; eleven great grandchildren, Justine Tucker, Josie Tucker, Jason Effner (Alissa), Marcus Effner, Kayla Effner, Caroline Effner, Olivia Effner, Elise Effner, Ryan Kimerer, Andrew Kimerer and Emma Kimerer; and two great great grandchildren Emilia Effner and Owen Effner; brothers-in-law James E. Effner and wife Nan of Palm Desert, CA, and Richard N. Effner of Terre Haute; sister-in-law Dorothy J. Effner of Jacksonville, FL; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 65 years, Owen E. Effner; sisters Mary Deckelmeier, Catherine Rose Burke and little Rose Burke; and brothers, John P. Burke and Daniel C. Burke, Jr. Betty was a 1939 graduate of Wiley High School. She was active in her bridge club, St. Patrick's Mother's Club (Treasurer) and the Elks in Terre Haute before the family moved to Lafayette, Indiana, in 1962. In Lafayette, she was active in the Central Catholic Mother's Club. After raising her children, upon request, she worked a few years in scheduling at Purdue University. Upon return to Terre Haute in 1978 after Owen's retirement, she was a member of Sycamore Country Club and volunteered with the St. Patrick's Soup Kitchen. She maintained contact with friends in Lafayette and enjoyed her "Lafayette Lunch Bunch". The family expresses appreciation to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, Father Rick Ginther, Eucharistic Minister Betty Kapellusch, special neighbor and friend Tracy Thomas, Dr. Kuduru, and all others who have cared and prayed for Mrs. Effner. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 15, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Rick Ginther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 5:00-8:00 P.M. in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with a Rosary Service to take place at 8:00 P.M. The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Soup Kitchen, 1807 Poplar Street, Terre Haute, IN 47803 or to Hospice/VNA of the Wabash Valley, 400 Eighth Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47804 or to Catholic Charities of Terre Haute, 1801 Poplar Street, Terre Haute, IN 47803.
