Edward D. Bensinger, Jr., 79, of Terre Haute passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 in Gulfside Hospice in New Port Richey, Florida. He had worked for 21 years as General Manager of F.W. Woolworth/ Woolco and had also worked for 15 years at First Financial Bank / The Morris Plan. Ed was born June 7, 1936 in Terre Haute to Edward D. Bensinger, Sr. and Lula M. Basham Bensinger. His wife, Murlgene Bruce Bensiner, preceded him in death on May 1, 2008.
Survivors include his three children, Marc E. Bensinger of New Port Richey, FL, Melody Lynn Dellinger and her husband, Dennis, of Westwood, KS and Melaine D. Bensinger of Treasure Island, FL; one grandchild, Abby; and two great-grandchildren, Andie Aislynn. Also surviving are two brothers, David L. Bensinger of Hammond, IN and Robert E. Bensinger of Terre Haute; a brother-in-law, Larry Bruce and his wife, Pam; a sister-in-law, Shirley Kelley; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert Richard Bensinger and Bennie Bensinger.
Ed was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School and attended the University of Boston. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956-1960 having been stationed in the U.S., Japan, Guam and North Africa. Ed was a long-time and active Mason in the Wabash Valley having attained Sovereign Grand Inspector General 33rd Degree. His Masonic memberships include; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute (P.T.P.M.), past master of Pimento Masonic Lodge #292 of Free Accepted Masons, Vigo County Association of Actual Past Masters F. A.M. of Indiana, Terre Haute York Rite, Terre Haute Chapter #11 Royal Arch Masons, Terre Haute Council #8 Cryptic Masons, past commander of Terre Haute Commandery #16 Knights Templar, Banks of the Wabash York Rite College #72, Yeomen of York Terre Haute Preceptory VI and Kerman Grotto. Ed was an honorary member of Social Lodge #86 F. A.M., Humboldt Lodge #42 F. A.M., Terre Haute Lodge #19 F. A.M. and Riley Lodge #390 F. A.M. Additional memberships include Pimento Chapter #516 Order of Eastern Star, Riley American Legion Post #328 and Memorial United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, February 27, 2016 in Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with O.E.S. Chapter #516, Pimento Masonic Lodge #292 and 33rd Degree Masons officiating. Burial with Military Graveside Honors provided by Riley American Legion Post #328 will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. -12:00 Noon in the funeral home.
