Edward Gene Abel

Edward Gene Abel, 82, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born April 4, 1934 in Terre Haute to Edgar G. Abel and Luella Schaefer Abel.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Burdick Abel; son, Joe Abel and his wife Donna; daughters, Jennifer Shamblin and Christine Rhodes and her husband Bob; grandchildren, Maggie Shamblin, Kelly Rhodes, Grace Rhodes, Conor Abel, and Caitlin Abel; several cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Virginia Elmore.

Ed had worked at Stran Steel, Metallic, Buildings to Go, EBC and owned Alpha Steel Erectors. He was a member of the Sycamore Country Club, graduated in 1952 from Wiley High School, and attended Indiana State University.

Memorial services will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 4:00 - 6:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society.
