Earl T. Reichert, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024. He was born on February 24, 1936, in Terre Haute, to Earl A. and Mary (Connors) Reichert.

Earl is survived by his sisters: Marylyn Rolle of Terre Haute and Therese Ann (Edward) Gropp of Terre Haute; nephews: Michael (Pam) Rolle of Rosedale and Jason (Emily) Gropp of Carmel; nieces: Kristie (Eric) Eaton of Terre Haute; Angel (Mark) Rain of Eugene, OR; and Heather Rogers of Greensboro, NC; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sally Ann (Ferry) Reichert.

Earl earned his B.S.M.E. from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1957. After graduation, he served from 1958 – 1960 on active duty as a commissioned officer in the United States Army at Ft. Belvoir, VA and at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Once he discharged from military service, Earl began to actively work in patent law, beginning in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 1960. In 1968, he received his J.D. from Catholic University of America after which he was admitted to the D.C. Bar. In 1969, he left the Federal Government to serve as a patent attorney with Penwalt Corporation in Philadelphia, PA until 1972. He then became a patent attorney for the Xerox Corporation in Rochester, NY, until 1981. In 1981, he returned to the Federal Government as a patent attorney with the Army and advanced to the position of Deputy Chief, Intellectual Property Law Division, Office of the Judge Advocate General, DA. He later went on to serve as the Acting Chief of the Intellectual Property Law Division and Acting Intellectual Property Counsel of the Army. He was a member of the Licensing Executives Society and the Government Patent Lawyers Association.

Per Earls wishes, cremation was chosen. He will be laid to rest in Fairfax Memorial Park, Fairfax, VA next to his wife. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to Patriot Pawsabilities of Burke, VA.
