Dr. Paul Eden Myers was born November 6, 1923 in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania to Reverend Frank A. Myers and Gail Brubaker Myers. He was the fourth of six sons born of that union.
He was educated in the public schools of the states of Virginia, Illinois and Pennsylvania and was graduated in 1941 from Connellsville Pennsylvania High School. He entered Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana but was soon admitted to the U.S. Navy in 1943.
Returning from the South Pacific in 1946, he married his college sweetheart, Phyllis. They raised three children, Michael, Christine, and Mark. Paul and Phyllis shared 65 plus years of marriage, both had careers in education and all three of their children became teachers as well. He was later blessed with 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
After the war, he returned to college, but to Indiana University. He completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and continued a life long career in public education. Over a span of 40 years, his teaching experience included elementary through secondary, and an Ed. D. degree. His career culminated in 1988 with a 20 year tenure at Indiana State University.
In 1950 , he was recalled to active duty with the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict prompting a 26 year long active/reserve career. He retired with the rank of Lt. Commander.
Throughout his life, Paul was a man of varied interests. He was a lifetime scholar. In his later years, using the Talking Books service, he “read” many books, with varied titles and genres. He loved to use his hands as a gardener, landscaper and builder of all types. He enjoyed people and constantly engaged in all kinds of social activities. This was particularly true of his church life. He was a lifetime member of his local church and over time he experienced most of the responsible positions in the fellowship. This is especially true of the church choir in which he participated over a 60 year period.
