Douglas J. Herrmann passed away Sunday morning, April 3, 2022 in Terre Haute, IN at the age of 80. He was born August 1, 1941 in Wilmington, DE the son of Carl V. and Ruth (Ice) Herrmann.
Doug attended the Naval Academy. After graduating in 1964, he joined the Marine Corp and was deployed to Vietnam. Upon returning home, he applied to graduate school at the University of Delaware where he received his MS and PhD in Cognitive Psychology. When beginning graduate school, he met his wife, Donna Shellenberger, and they married on March 21, 1969. He spent one year on a post doc on Memory processes at Stanford University. He joined the faculty at Hamilton College in 1973 and remained there until 1989.
From 1989-1990 he worked at NIMH, 1990-1992 worked at BLS, and from 1992-1995 worked at NCHS. In 1995, he joined the faculty at Indiana State University as Chairperson of the Psychology Department and was there until his retirement in 2005.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Donna Lynn Herrmann; his daughter, Amanda Gordon; son, Zachary Herrmann; and sister, Phyllis Witcher.
