Dorothy E. Tweedy Marter, wife, mother and grandmother passed away late Monday evening, April 27, 2015. She was born September 8, 1914 to A. J. and Effie Trogdon Tweedy of Sanford, Illinois. Dorothy was married on October 17, 1936 to Louis R. Marter, and he preceded her in death in 1982. Dorothy attended Paris High School and Brown's Business College (now known as Harrison College) where she would proudly tell family and friends that she took dictation for the famous Terre Haute poet and writer, Max Ehrmann. After college she worked at Columbia House Home Products for a short time before raising her family. In 1964 her old boss called her to come back to work where she was employed for 15 years before her retirement in 1979. Dorothy also worked in St. Patrick School Cafeteria where her children attended school. She is survived by three children, David (Connie) Marter, Barbara Dominick and Susan (James) Keegan; and close friend, Phyllis DeBord. She was also grandmother to Charles Marter, Christopher (Eva) Marter, Kimberly (Jon) Swaner, Kristina Dominick, Marc Dominick, Amy Keegan Spitler, Rebecca (Chris) Campbell and Michael (Colette) Keegan; was known as "G.G." to ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and leaves an extended family of nieces, nephews & cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Russell Tweedy and Clyde Tweedy; and a son-in-law, Floyd E. Dominick. Dorothy was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Sugar Grove Home Ec Club. Since moving from Anthony Square she has made her home with her daughter, Barbara. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 1, 2015 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Rick Ginther officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for 4:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
