Dorothy J. Houpt, 90, of Terre Haute passed away early Friday morning, October 5, 2018 at Harrison's Crossing Health Campus. She worked at the Bemis Company for 26 years. Dorothy was born November 21, 1927 in Terre Haute to Clarence French and Anna Koster French. Her husband of 47 years, William N. Houpt, preceded her in death in 1995.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Phillips (Edward) of Terre Haute; two daughters-in-law, Laura Houpt of Terre Haute and Marsha Houpt of Alabama; her brother, Norman French (Thelma) of Terre Haute; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Vickie French; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was also preceded in death by two sons, David Lee Houpt and William Edgar Houpt; a brother, Clarence L. French; and a sister-in-law, Elinor French.
Dorothy was a member of Northside Community United Methodist Church and Little River Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, KY. She was a volunteer at Royal Oaks Health Care Center in Terre Haute and also at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville. Dorothy loved working in her flower garden and was especially fond of her two dogs.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Pastor James Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Tuesday from 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon.
