Dorothy Jane Haley Miller, 87, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Rocky River, Ohio and Terre Haute, Indiana passed away, Tuesday, September 17, 2013 surrounded by her three children. She was born November 7, 1925 in Terre Haute, IN to William F. Haley and Mary Louise Shoemaker Haley. Survivors include her loving children, Gerald Michael Miller and his wife, Susan, of Riverside, CA, Rosemary Rothkopf and her husband, Robert, of Indianapolis, IN and Annette Dever and her husband, Steve, of Rocky River, OH; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Haley of Terre Haute; 10 grandchildren, Chet, Stephanie and Timothy Miller, Amanda, Stephen and Jackson Rothkopf, and Victoria, Monica, Samantha and Andrew Dever; 5 great-grandchildren, Sarah Orbe and Jacob, Luke, Janae and Alexis Miller; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald C. Miller; her parents; two sons, Stephen Miller and Timothy Miller; two brothers, John Haley and Hank Haley and sister, Rosemary Haley. Dorothy attended St. Margaret Mary grade school, graduated from Central Catholic High School and received her RN degree from St. Anthony's School of Nursing. She began her career as an industrial nurse for Visqueen and later worked for Dr. Fred L. Wilson. After she married Gerald Miller, they moved to Chicago, IL where she worked part time at Little Company of Mary Hospital and became a homemaker. They later moved to Terre Haute to be closer to family. Dorothy was a dedicated member and volunteer of both St. Margaret Mary and St. Benedict Catholic Churches. She was a member and president of St. Anthony Alumni for many years. A yearly scholarship is awarded in her name at Indiana State University School of Nursing. Dorothy was a devout Catholic and a role model to all who knew her. She was a devoted wife and mother who was generous, loving and kind. She will be missed by all. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:05 P.M. Monday, September 23rd, 2013 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 111 South 9th Street, with Father Matthew Malek, OFM Conv. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, September 22nd, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 50 East 91st St., STE 100, Indianapolis, IN 46209-4830.
