Doris Mae Bennett

Doris Bennett passed peacefully at age 97 with her beloved daughter Caroline Bennett at her side.

Born in Toledo, Ohio she grew up with her parents, Esther and Herb Felker attending Scott High School and then graduating from The Ohio State University. She married Richard “Dick” Granville Bennett after he returned from the European Theater of World War II where he served as a bombardier.

Doris lived an extremely full life raising her children as well as being involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives. When she and Dick moved from Toledo to Terre Haute in 1969, she decided to enter the workforce with the perfect vocation for her personality as an elementary teacher at Dixie Bee Elementary School. There she touched the lives of many children with her wit, humor and communication skills. To do so, she earned a Master of Education at ISU at age 45. She was extremely active in P.E.O. International, Swope Art Museum, the Vigo County Historical Society and her college sorority, Chi Omega.

Doris who was predeceased by her husband Dick and grandson Richard G. Bennett III, and is survived by her daughter Caroline Bennett and her son Bobby Bennett; son Richard G. Bennett, Jr. and his wife Kathy Bennett and his daughter-in-law Abbey Bennett and his grandchildren Zoey and Jax Bennett; son Herbert F. Bennett and his wife Vivian Bennett and children Cameron Bennett and Alexander Bennett.

Visitation will be 3 to 6 PM Thursday, October 27th at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 ^th Street.  Private burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.  If friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Vigo County Education Foundation, P.O.
