Cheryl Lee Hart and Donald Wayne Morris, husband and wife of 32 years, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 27, 2021, while on vacation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Cheryl was born April 10, 1958, in Wichita, Kansas to Orville C. Hart and Charlotte D. (Dray) Hart. She graduated from Andover High School and then from Kansas State University with a BS Degree in 1980. A success story in her own right, this farm girl from Kansas went on to become the 1st female Logistics Branch Manager for ABF Freight, later working for Landstar System, Inc. She was an avid runner and cyclist, having raced in numerous marathons and endurance cycling races. Cheryl was always active in her children’s school and sporting events, while never forgetting her roots being a fierce “K-State” football and basketball fan. She was a member of Tri Kappa.

Don was born September 22, 1953, in Terre Haute to Donald E. Morris and Mary L. (Skelly) Morris. He was a graduate of Terre Haute Garfield High School and earned both his BA and MA Degrees from Indiana State University. Don was very active in the Terre Haute community, especially in politics where he was currently serving a 4-year term as Councilman for the Vigo County Council, and had previously served 3 terms as a Terre Haute City Councilman. He was a former Executive Director of the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center.

Most of all, Don was a musician. He was a songwriter and performer, and wrote and produced 4 studio albums. Don developed a large, loyal fan base as a popular musician, both solo and as a band leader. He was the lead musician for the Don Morris Band, owner

of the Club Morris of Terre Haute and was the house band for the former Larry Bird’s Boston Connection. The band opened for country icons Randy Travis and Keith Whitley before a crowd of 7,500 at Hulman Center in 1987, and opened there for George Strait in 1988. Don was inducted into the Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame in 2006. Cheryl was at times Don’s fan, muse, videographer, and business manager, always supporting his music career.

Cheryl and Don loved to travel, a hobby that took them across North America, Europe, Asia and Central America.

They are survived by their children, Carson Morris of Nashville, TN and Paul Morris of Indianapolis, IN; Don’s mother, Mary L. Morris of Terre Haute; Cheryl’s sister, Candace “Candy” Duncan of Bethesda, MD; Cheryl’s brother, Charles “Chuck” Hart (Karla) of Andover, KS; nephews and niece, Benjamin Hart (Kyra), Andrew Hart, and Reagan Hart (Idan); and great-niece, Candace Hart. They were preceded in death by Don’s father and Cheryl’s parents; and brother-in-law, James Michael Duncan, M.D.

A Celebration of the Lives of Cheryl and Don will be conducted at Hulman Center on Saturday, June 5th from 1-3pm, where good music and good memories will be shared. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
