Deanna Kay Walter, 78, of Terre Haute passed away at home with her children and grandchildren early Friday morning, June 5, 2020, after a brief three-week battle with cancer. She was born December 18, 1941 in Terre Haute to Ralph Robinson and Dorothy Fries Robinson. Her husband, James L. Walter, Sr., preceded her in death on March 5, 1995.
Survivors include her four children, Elaine K. Walter-Shamdin (Bob) of Mattoon, IL, Jay Walter (Renée) of Indianapolis, Carol Wiemuth (Jay) of Fulshear, TX and Sally Walter of Terre Haute; and eight grandchildren, Allison Walter, Abigail Shamdin, Katherine Shamdin, James Shamdin, Christopher Wiemuth, Mitchell Wiemuth, Caroline Davies and Simon Davies. Also surviving are her sister, Janet Robinson of Terre Haute; three brothers, Bill Robinson (LynnAnn) of Brazil, IN, Bucky Robinson (Deborah) of Hot Springs, AR, and Jimmy Robinson of Terre Haute; two sisters-in law, Kathy Walter of Crown Point, IN and Penny Walter of Center Point, IN; several nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Robinson.
Deanna was a 1959 graduate of Schulte High School and was retired from the Vigo County Sheriff's Office. She was a lifelong devout Catholic and member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the "WOW" girls, which brought her so many fun times and travels, the Schulte group, St. Pat's CHiRP group, and the "Knit Wits" from Memorial United Methodist Church. Deanna's God-given talent of sales (she could literally sell anything) would provide endless entertainment for family and friends. Unbeknown to her, she was often the funniest person in the group, which made it even better. Above all, Deanna was so incredibly proud of each of her children and grandchildren's accomplishments and loved to spend time with them. She loved to tell you about each one of them. Deanna will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. For those of the lucky ones who were able to call her family or friend, you truly understand the impact of our loss.
