Christina Alig Sanchez Garrigus, 84, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday evening, November 3, 2018 at Cobblestone Crossings Health Campus. She was born March 25, 1934 in Indianapolis, IN to Felix George Alig and Ellene Lippeatt Alig.
Survivors include her children, James Henry Sanchez (Sonia), Elizabeth Sanchez, Marlene Sanchez, Deborah Sanchez Bauermeister (Ryan) and Robert Sanchez; a step-daughter, Rebecca; and two grandchildren, Steven Sanchez and Kyle Bauermeister. Also surviving are six brothers and sisters, Mary Ellen Alig Schmitteckert (Walt), George Alig, Sarah E. Alig Mauro (Julius), Michael Alig, Theresa Dowling, and Matthew Alig (Andrea); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husbands, Jaime Sanchez and Edward A. Garrigus.
Christina was a dedicated and active parishioner of St. Benedict Catholic Church where she was a First Grade Catechist in Religious Education for many years, was a long-time volunteer and played a pivotal role with the Soup Kitchen, and participated in Liturgical Ministries, Happy on Purpose Seniors (HOPS) and Dine with Nine.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 10, 2018 in St. Benedict Catholic Church, 111 South 9th Street, with Father Martin Day, OFM Conv. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 9th from 4:00-8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:30 PM in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. If friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict Catholic Church, 111 South 9th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.
