C. E. (GENE) TRUMMEL Christian Eugene Trummel, 89, known as Gene, died in Crystal Lake, IL on Saturday January 3, 2015. Gene Trummel was born on December 1, 1925 in Macon County, IL to Lewis Henry and Nellie May (Groves) Trummel. He graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign after service in the US Navy during World War II. Gene was a CPA in Terre Haute for over 40 years. He was a founding partner of Sackrider & Company in Terre Haute and was very active in AICPA. Gene was a former Terre Haute City Councilman. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of Terre Haute Lodge #19 F & AM, active in the Ancient Accepted Order of Scottish Rite, and earned his 50 year pin as an active member of Zorah Shrine. In addition, Gene was a member of Kiwanis, Elks Lodge #86, and was active in the First Congregational Church of Terre Haute. Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Jane Louise Snyder, and his wife of 10 years Louise Irene Cheek. Surviving are his two children Christian (Chris) E. Trummel Jr. and wife Betty of Crystal Lake, IL, and Sarah J. Mattick and husband Jim of Terre Haute, IN; grandchildren Matthew Trummel (Cassie) of Harker Heights, TX; Scott Trummel of Phoenix, AZ; Patrick Minnaert of Aspen, CO; Ryan Trummel of Crystal Lake, IL; Julie Mandolini-Trummel of Arlington, VA; Linda Trummel of Chicago, IL; and Jimmy, Justin, Heidi and Hayden Mattick all of Terre Haute, IN; as well as three great-grandchildren, Austin Trummel of Crystal Lake; and Jackson and Ella Trummel both of Harker Heights. A visitation will be held on Thursday January 8, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:30 PM with a Masonic Memorial Service to take place at 7:00 P.M. at the Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street in Terre Haute, IN. Burial will be Friday morning January 9th in Highland Lawn Cemetery after a short 10:00 AM service at Callahan & Hughes. Military Graveside Honors will be provided by VFW Post #972.
