Chris Tina Haley, of Terre Haute passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017, in her home. Chris was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on June 12th, 1951 to Abbie Richardson Vogel and Joseph Kenneth Vogel. She grew up in St. Mary's, Ohio with her parents and her sister, Melinda. She continued the loves of her childhood - dancing, hiking, horseback riding, and swimming-- into adulthood.
Chris graduated from Ohio State University in 1973 where she majored in dance and education and was captain of the Cheerleading team. Continuing her education, she earned her masters' degree in English from Indiana University. Chris taught English at Terre Haute South Vigo High School from both 1975-1977 and from 1995 until 2016-- taking years off in between to raise her children.
Chris married Joseph Anthony Haley on July 10th, 1976. They had four children: Carey Wong (Barclay), Matthew Haley (Taryn), Joseph Haley, Jr. (Melissa), and Abbie Jones (Nicholas); and twelve grandchildren: Lilian, Addison, Miriam, and Emma Wong; Gabriel, Isabel, and Adeline Haley; Michael, Henry, Clare, and Joseph Haley; and David Jones with Christina Jones on the way. Her grandkids called her PoPo. We will miss her forever.
Chris is survived by her sister Melinda (Tim) Michael, her devoted and loving second mother, Barbara Vogel, her husband, children, grandchildren, many sisters and brothers in law, and nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Abbie and Kenneth Vogel, her in laws John and Mary Alice Haley, and her grandson Beau Jones.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:05 PM, Thursday, December 28, 2017 in St. Benedict Catholic Church, 111 South 9th Street, with Father Martin Day, OFM Conv. officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 27th from 4:00-8:00 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 8:00 PM in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home 605 South 25th Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
