Charlotte A. (Moore) Norris, of Terre Haute, celebrated local church musician, died February 21, 2017 after a year of declining health. She was 86 years old. Charlotte was born July 17, 1930 in Rushville, Indiana to George P. Moore and Mary V. (Moorman) Moore. On June 18, 1950, she married Robert E. "Bob" Norris. They were married 32 years until his death on March 5, 1983.
Charlotte enjoyed a life-long career in music, primarily as an accomplished church organist. Early piano lessons led to her pursuit of a degree in music performance at Indiana University-Bloomington in the late 1940's. Though she put her formal education on hold to raise a family, Charlotte built her skills in the challenging task of playing a three-manual pipe organ at Central Christian Church at 7th and Mulberry Streets. After many years in that position, she broadened her expertise as the organist at St. Patrick's Church.
Following Bob's death, Charlotte joined the Catholic Church and devoted herself full-time to church music. She returned to school and completed her music degree at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. The St. Mary's community welcomed her with open arms and embraced her talents. She truly found her spiritual home in serving the Sisters of Providence at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods through her music and as a Providence Associate until her death.
Throughout her career, Charlotte served her profession, as well. As a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, the International Music Fraternity, and American Guild of Organists, she held offices, planned functions, and performed for peers and the general public.
Charlotte is survived by four children. They are Robert P. "Rob" Norris (Christine), of Terre Haute, Margaret "Peggy" Corey (George) of Indianapolis, Mary Wallace (Jim) of Munster, and Barbara Clauss (Mark) also of Terre Haute. Her 10 grandchildren include: Dean Wilson of Terre Haute; Aaron Corey, Alisa Corey Kuehn (Jason), and Ann Corey Clough (Josh), all of Indianapolis; Jason Wallace (Cindy) of Casselberry, FL, Abigail Wallace Stanton of St. Petersburg, FL, Adam Wallace (Kelly) of Munster, Eric Wallace (Alexandria) of Riverview, FL; Adam Clauss of Fishers and Aaron Clauss of West Lafayette. Charlotte was blessed with 16 great-grandchildren, who are: Sofia and James Wilson; Celeste Corey; Desmond and Sergey Kuehn; Arthur and Georgia Clough; Callie, Jackson, and Jameson Wallace; Ava and Johnathan Jr. (Jj) Stanton; Emma and Baby Wallace (due in May 2017); and Troy and Lucy Wallace. She is also survived by one brother, Elvet Moore of California, one nephew, three nieces, and several cousins.
