Charles Paul "Chuck" Hanley, of Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2019 at the age of 75. He was born in Terre Haute to John Michael Hanley and Mary Patricia Sheehan Hanley on September 14, 1944.
Chuck is survived by a son, Charlie Hanley and his wife Chris Ann; special companion, Belle Brandt; sister and brother-in-law Mary Lou and Gary Williams, sister-in-law Carolyn Hanley; Brother-in-law Charlie Little; nieces and nephews, Debra Miller; John Hanley III & Kay, Kathy Dunbar & Don; Tim Hanley & Robin, Karen McCue & Slater, Jennifer Hanley, Brad Little & Tammy, Paul Little, Sandy Marling & Tim; Nicholas Williams & Terran, Meghan Williams, Molly Porter & Seth and Christopher Miller. Belle has been his companion for 21 years and he will be greatly missed by her children Joe Cummins, Scott Loudermilk, grandchildren Joey Cummins, Peyton Loudermilk and Cayla Schalburg & Jacob. He is also survived by numerous generations of cousins and nieces and nephews.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; one brother John Hanley, Jr, and a sister, Patty Little.
Chuck attended St. Ann's Primary School and graduated Gerstmeyer Technical High School. Chuck loved spending time with his family and friends. He was very proud of his Irish Heritage and cherished memories of trips to Ireland. He also loved traveling with friends and family especially to Walt Disney World. His fall weekends revolved around his love of Notre Dame Football.
Chuck retired in 2018 after 36 years of service as the City Clerk for the City of Terre Haute. This was one of his greatest accomplishments and he loved holding the position. Chuck always had a knack of understanding the need of the community and how politics could help accomplish those needs. He was a true public servant.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 111 S. 9th Street with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm - 8:00pm Friday, September 27 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
