Charles Gordon Hayes, 95, of Terre Haute passed away Sunday evening, May 22, 2022. He was born November 26, 1926 in Terre Haute to Charles M. Hayes and Doris Whitmer Hayes.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Margaret Landis Hayes; two sons, Robert Hayes (Denise) of Fort Wayne, IN and Thomas Hayes (Regina) of Roanoke, VA; five grandchildren, Matthew Hayes, Nicholas Hayes, Lisa Sykes (Ben), David Hayes (Nicole) and Steven Hayes (Jennifer); five great-grandchildren, Joshua, Nehemiah, Alex, Paige and Rhys; and his sister-in-law, Sonia Murphy of Indianapolis.
Gordon was a 1944 graduate of Garfield High School and a 1949 graduate of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Gordon began his career in 1949 working in insurance with his father at Hayes Insurance Agency in Terre Haute. He continued to own and operate the agency until his retirement in 2019. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church from 1952, past President of the National Association of Health Underwriters, 33rd Degree Mason, Social Masonic Lodge #86 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute and Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute.
Private graveside services were conducted at Roselawn Memorial Park with Pastor Ric May officiating. There was no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 th Street.
