Charles Robert “Charlie” Fox, 100, of Terre Haute passed away Monday afternoon, April 8, 2024. He was a Civil Engineer working for Ayrshire Colliery / AMAX Coal Company for 47 years and was a Retired Naval Officer. Charlie was born December 2, 1923 in Terre Haute to Dr. Noble Fox and Frances Pittman Fox.
Survivors include his wife, Maryella Elbrink Fox; his children, Beverly Fox and Charles Edwin Fox both of Terre Haute; step-children, Lisa Mosele Scully (John) of Bloomington, IN and Randy Robert Mosele (Kathy) of Mandeville, LA; a grandson, Robert Thomas Dant (Jessica) of Branson, MO; and step-grandchildren, Cass Mosele of Denver, CO and Nicholas Heinzen of San Francisco, CA. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances F. Hunter.
Charlie was a graduate of Glenn High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy during both World War II and Korea, C.O. of the Naval Reserve Center in Terre Haute for many years and was a member of M.O.A.A. After his military service, Charlie returned to Terre Haute and began working in the coal industry. He also operated his own Survey Company helping to establish several Terre Haute neighborhoods until his retirement at the age of 92.
In 2022, Charlie was flown to Washington, D.C. as part of an Honor Flight recognizing his service to our country.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 13, 2024 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Apr. 12th from 4:00-6:00 PM in the funeral home.
