Charles Lawrence ("Larry") Beymer, age 86, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018. He was born March 6, 1932, in Blackford County, Indiana, to Beulah Randolph Beymer and Charles Lawrence Beymer.
In his early years, Larry was a 4-H member and an International Farm Youth exchange student in the Netherlands. He graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Agriculture, and received a master's degree in Guidance and Counseling and a PhD in Philosophy from Michigan State University. For 34 years, Larry was a professor in the School of Education, Counseling and Psychology, at Indiana State University, writing several grants and training graduate students to be school counselors.
Larry was married to Norma (Barr) Beymer for 58 years. Together, they built a life in Terre Haute with their four children and many lifelong friends. He served on the Sycamore Showcase committee and as a board member of the 14th and Chestnut Community Center. Larry loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren in Chicago, Indianapolis and Los Angeles. Larry pursued many interests throughout his life including stained glass work, listening to old-time radio shows and big band music, as well as traveling with friends, attending ISU basketball games, and hunting for shells on the beaches of Florida.
Larry was a loving husband and father, and is survived by his wife, Norma; son, Kevin Beymer; daughters, Karin Beymer (husband, Mike Sherman); Krista Beymer; Kathy Beymer (husband, Shane Winegard) and two grandchildren, Elise and Liam Winegard. He is survived by a sister, Julia Lee; brother, Richard Beymer; and preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Beymer.
A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 28 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2701 Poplar Street, Terre Haute, IN. A celebration of life will take place at the church on Thursday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the 14th and Chestnut Community Center, 1403 Chestnut Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.
