Cecelia C. Lundstrom

November 22, 1933 — October 25, 2013

CECELIA C. LUNDSTROM Cecelia C. Lundstrom, 79, of Terre Haute died early Friday morning, October 25, 2013. She was born November 22, 1933 in Terre Haute to John V. Lundstrom and Alice Gertrude Denzler Lundstrom. She had a great love and affection for her many surviving nieces and nephews especially Joe Pestoff, and also for the students at John Paul II Catholic High School. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Barbara Lundstrom of North Glen, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, John, Robert, Richard, Joseph and his wife, Rita, Jim and Vince (Brother John of the Cross, OCDS); and two sisters, Mary Alice Haley and her husband, John, and Dorothy Pestoff and her husband, Harry. Cel attended St. Margaret Mary Grade School and Central Catholic High School at St. Patrick's Parish. She earned a Bachelor's degree from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and a Master's degree in Elementary Administration and Supervision from Indiana State University. Cel taught at St. Vincent de Paul and St. Philomena's schools in Denver, CO for 10 years. After returning to Terre Haute, she taught at St. Patrick, Annunciation in Brazil and Sacred Heart schools. Additionally, she served at Principal at St. Patrick School for 6 years and as Principal of Sacred Heart School for one year. In all, Cel taught at Terre Haute Deanery schools for 15 years. In addition to her educational career, Cel was also Director of Sunday Morning Religious Education at St. Patrick Parish for 8 years and in 1972 founded the pro-life organization Birthright of Terre Haute, offering assistance to women and girls who were or thought they might be pregnant. She continued as Executive Director of Birthright working to save the lives of the unborn and their mothers until it closed in 2011. A long-time dream of hers was fulfilled when she established John Paul II Catholic High School in August of 2000. She did this to help families who desired for their students a Catholic education which was faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. She was director/teacher at John Paul II for 9 years. Cel was a member of St. Patrick Parish and a devoted Roman Catholic, who saw its teachings as a remedy for most of the world's problems. One of her most loved works was to assist in the establishment of the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at St. Patrick Parish and to coordinate the operation of the chapel 24/7 for nearly 15 years of prayer. The Chapel continues today because of the faith and dedication of those like Cel. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, concelebrated by Father Rick Ginther and Monsignor Larry Moran. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 5:00-7:00 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM in St. Patrick Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions may be made to John Paul II Catholic High School, 1330 Lafayette Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47804.
