A beautiful, kind, loving and giving spouse, daughter, sister and aunt, Catherine Ann Taken passed away early Saturday morning, August 23, 2014. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 21, 1952. She leaves behind her loving husband, William J. Taken, whom she married September 11, 1976; her father, Renzo Casciani and his wife, Ann; a sister, Maryann Casciani with her children Lena, Sam & Mark Tortorice; a brother, Michael Casciani; a sister-in-law, Karen Casciani and her son Kyle Casciani; her mother-in-law, Frances Bauer Taken; brother-in-law, Edward J. Taken, his wife Rebecca and their children Lorna Gutierrez (Demas) and Samuel Taken; and her great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, Mauro, Adriana and Eli Gutierrez and Aidan, Nate and Violet Taken. Cathy also leaves behind many friends, choir members and co-workers who will miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Macri Casciani; a brother, Kevin Casciani; and a nephew, Anthony Tortorice. Cathy received her bachelor's degree in Psychology from Northeastern Illinois University and was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. She had worked for the Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods as an administrative assistant to the General Officers. Cathy traveled with the Sisters to Rome and sang in the choir during the canonization of St. Mother Theodore Guerin in 2006. Cathy loved her family, music, reading books, traveling and hiking. Playing piano was a passion and she enjoyed being a member of the St. Ben's choir. Her smile would light up a room. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:05 P.M. Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in St. Benedict Church, 111 South 9th Street, with Father Matthew Malek officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 25th from 5:00-9:00 P.M. at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to ALS Association, P.O.
