Catherine Elizabeth Grimes

Survivors include her parents, Michael G. Grimes of Terre Haute and Susan Grimes Welch and her husband, Phil , of Terre Haute; a brother, Jimmy Grimes and his wife, Allie, of San Diego, CA; her grandmother, Elizabeth Betty Grimes of Terre Haute; and aunts uncles, Carol Dones, Beth Bill Haley, Bill Peggy Grimes, Ann Joe Heffelmire, Dave Pam Grimes, Mary Mark Risinger and Pete Pam Grimes. Also surviving are many cousins and innumerable great friends from all walks of her adventurous life. She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Jean Dones; and her grandfathers, Jim Dones and William M. Grimes.
Cathy was a 1997 graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo High School where she was both an outstanding student and member of the swimming and diving, cheerleading, gymnastics and track teams. While a student at Terre Haute North she was honored with the Tim Sullivan Award for outstanding academics and athletics.
In 2001 she graduated with Honors-Magna Cum Laude from Ball State University with a degree in Exercise Science, where she continued to excel in the classroom and as a diver on the Cardinal Swimming and Diving team. Cathy earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University in 2005 and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where she worked as both an outpatient and traveling physical therapist, most recently with Gentiva Home Healthcare. Cathy loved to travel and was an enthusiast of all things active, especially yoga, hiking and skiing.
Cathy was a bright and shining light in the life of every person that she met. Her loving, generous and adventurous personality was and continues to be an inspiration to all.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 1, 2016 in St. Benedict Catholic Church, 111 South 9th Street, with Father Mathew Malek and Reverend Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 31st from 3:00 P.M. 7:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service and Rosary to take place at 7:00 P.M. in Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Catherine Elizabeth Grimes Memorial Fund, c/o Wabash Valley Community Foundation, 2901 Ohio Blvd., Suite 153, Terre Haute, IN 47803 to support a memorial bench in the diving well at the Wabash Valley Aquatics Center and an endowed fund for outstanding female student athletes at Terre Haute North.
